Every two years to be safe
Raise the engine and secure it
First thing would be to change the oil and filter. Perform a compression and cylinder leak down test on each cylinder, to determine how, and where, the water intrusion occured.

While designing an industrial blower, how can one assess as to what should be the size of the housing, Impeller and number of blades of an impeller. An answer will much appreciated.
The fuel mixture for a Yamaha 40 hp 2 stroke outboard engine is 50:1, gas, oil mixture. You should use new gas when you get the engine ready for the season.
If you have a blueband mercury 4hp engine, remove the bottom section of the leg (just above the prop) you will find x2 11mm nuts. Undo both and pull apart, you should find that the gear rod and drive shaft come out of a black piece of plastic housing. Undo the x2 (8mm) retaining nuts and remove the housing. Inside you will find the impeller (6 bladed rubber spider) £17.56 from any mercury dealer or £8.00 online.. Hope this helps
This is rather vague, but as long as the mounting holes are the same, and both are the same type of controls, IE... mechanical or electronic, you should not have to change anything.
Should be on the transom bracket facing the motor on starboard side
When they are broken.
This engine should have a VRO pump and if it has been bypassed the mixture is 50:1
