Africanized honey bees escaped from a research facility in Brazil about 50 years ago and since then have spread steadily northwards through South America and Central America. They have now occupied the Southern states of the USA and whether they will be able to colonise the Northern states will depend on how well they are able to withstand the colder winters further north.
