Titanic was built from the keel up. Her empty hull was slid out of the Arrol Gantry and floated to the Thompson Graving Dock where her boilers, engines, and funnels were installed.

The first piece of steel was laid on March 31st, 1909 and she was still being painted and completed by April 10th, 1912 when she sailed out of Southampton, UK.

It took a giant massive muti ton to sink the Titanic, by causing the steel plates to buckle and water to seep in, until the ship sank. No. A human being could not sink the Titanic with a sledgehammer. It took the Titanic two hours to sink after hitting the iceberg. It was very well built.
