It was reported that actor Chris Noth could not come to an agreement on salary with Wolf Films at the end of Season 5 (1995) of the original Law and Order series. It was also said that the personalities of Logan and Briscoe needed more contrast (both were experienced detectives and a bit jaded by the job). In the final episode for that season (Pride), Logan was put in a situation where his temper flared and put his job in jeopardy. As a result, he was 'exiled' to a precinct in Staten Island.
However, actor Noth either made a new deal with Wolf Films or disappointed fans made some noise, because Detective Logan is featured in a made for TV movie (called 'Exiled') in 1998 where he redeems himself. It must have saved Logan's career because he gets reassigned to Manhattan in the Major Crimes unit for 36 episodes of Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
