It depends on the situation, but all the canines that I have worked with and trained with, all are trained in what is called "Handler Protection" this is where is the handler is in a fight his canine does not need a command, but will try and defend the police officer from others. This is a great thing, the only time that this training has hinderd, is when the canine protects their handler from anyone, even someone trying to render aid.
because police dogs are trained to bite, tear, scare, and hurt, while police just scare and hurt.
You would call him/her the chief of police.
Not unless they have a police officer with them AND they have a search warrant.
yes obviously ...
Yes, cos you could get stabbed, or killed, or hurt.
What the heck is a DWI?????????? Maybe?
you call da police foo!!
yes killing a police dog is just the same as a human officer .
Killing or harming a police dog is a crime. A police dog is considered a police officer, despite not being human. Therefore by harming a police dog you are effectively harming a police officer in the eyes of the law. Police dogs are also very expensive to train and maintain. So not only would you be harming a police asset but you would also be angering the national treasury and taxpayers for wasting their money. Kicking or punching a police dog is a crime, unless the dog attacked for no reason, then it is self defence and acceptable. Otherwise you'll be jailed for harming the police dog. Killing a police dog, unless in self defence (except where the dog was set upon you by police) will also result in jail.
there are laws that protect the animal but the police has to investigate.
if the dog had attacked you after a command from the controlling officer, say grabberd your arm or leg to stop you running away then yes - assaulting a police dog is the same as assaulting a police officer! On the other hand if the dog then went wild and tried to tear you to pieces, say was trying to get at your throat then you would be able to defend yourself - but only if the dog was obviously out of control. If a police dog just attacks you for no reason (say runs away from a plice officer at an airport and tries to savage you) then yes you could defend yourself.
K9 officers are generally POST-certified police officers. You may want to check within your own state though, as the specifics may vary. Now, to be a police K9 trainer, it is usually not a requirement to be a police officer.
