- When Winston has sex with a prostitute he mention how ugly and repellent she is, as she is coated with make up, is aging and lacks beauty entirely. (Which is to say prostitution is accepted however, it is an activity designed purely to inspire guilt and disgust.)
- When Winston has sex with his wife, she looks away, is disgusted , avoiding any eye contact with her partner. She is not enamored with him, at all but states that she only has sex purely for the sake of the administration.
