The question could be a little more specific. I'll have to give a general answer here.
If we are discussing computing then, software is the code or programs running on the computing device. Desktop, laptop, notepad or PDAs (personal Data Assistants) are all computing devices. There are several other devices that run software.
A good example of the line between software and hardware can be seen when we look at the BIOS chip in personal computers. The chip itself is hardware. The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) chip is specifically a ROM (Read Only Memory) chip. You can hold this chip in your hand and it has physical attributes like size, shape and weight. This is hardware. Now burned or programmed into this BIOS chip are the necessary programs to run startup test and boot up an operating system. This is software or code. You can't hold this in your hand, it is binary numbers held electronically in the chip.
Regardless of the medium being used software is the binary code, and the device is the hardware it is stored on. Even memory chips are hardware, and though it may be a temporal storage location it is still a storage location.
Software is information generally stored in a digital format. it is usually a set of instruction to run a machine. Hardware is the physical components of the machine that caries out the instructions.
Hardware is any physical part of the computer necessary for it to operate ( basically anything inside the case)
Software is any programs or operating system installed on the computer, it is not essential for the computer to run but is necessary to complete certain tasks, it cannot be physically touched.
Hardware is essential for the computer to operate, without it nothing will work.
Hardware can be; Motherboards, Memory, Harddrives, CD Drives, Video Cards etc...
Software can be; Operating Systems e.g. Windows, Linux. or programs e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, Windows Media Player. or Updates from the OS or Hardware Manufacturer

Hardware is the actual components of the computer such as processors, memory, mother boards etc, where as software is programs that are either installed or can be installed on your computer. Both are needed for a computer to function hardware to make the computer and software (the os is a program) as to allow you to work on it.
Software needs hardware to run on, and hardware is brought alive by software. Hardware is anything physical that you can touch, like the keyboard, a disk, a screen or your mouse. Software is something you cannot see or touch. It is on the disks and in other parts of the computer, but you cannot see it. Without software hardware is not much good. Most of what you do on a computer requires both. A good analogy is the brain and thoughts. A brain is a physical thing, but if you were to open up the brain you could not see any thoughts in it. A brain is like hardware and thoughts are software.
Hardware is physical, things you can touch like the keyboard mouse.
Software is digital, things you can't touch like MS Paint or Notepad.
Hardware and software are equivalent in that both are necessary in order to operate a computer.
These both carries informations
Nice
A VDU is hardware.
A scanner is both hardware and software, the device itself is hardware (all devices are hardware) but the driver(a program) that runs it is software.
hardware
A microphone is hardware. Software is what programs and games are called.
both a hardware and software
Motherboards are hardware components, not software.
Have to be hardware. How could you write software if there were no hardware to write it on?
Software. Short and sweet. Hardware needs software to work.
hardware
Yes. Hardware can be touched and software cannot.
A scanner is a hardware device that is operated by software.
anything that can be done with hardware can also be done with software and anything done with software can also be done with hardware.
