Intermittent throbbing pain scalp behind right ear external ear tender to touch?

I experience the same problem from time to time. I was told by my doctor it's a muscle spasm that runs up your neck through your ear and up to your scalp above your ear. I get sharp stabbing ear and scalp pain. And my scalp is sensitive to the touch.
If it's the same problem, I control it with Robaxacet and Absorbine Jr. I actually rub it into my hair and neck - Its messy - and I don't leave the house like that, but it helps. And usually the pain is gone in 2-3 days and doesn't come back for months or years.
This problem seems to hit me when I go from very hot humid air to very cold air conditioning. I think that tenses up the muscle.
If you have a fever or any other symptoms, a muscle spasm may not be your problem - go see a doctor.
