ADHD is known as a brain disorder due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, and is also commonly categorized under 'Mental Health'. But since it is a type of disorder, it's not really a 'sickness' because it can't be cured, just managed and kept under control.

ADHD is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder; it causes delayed growth in some areas of the brain, mainly the areas that help a person maintain focus and plan (executive functions). ADHD is a non-contagious disease that is treatable.

People who suffer from ADD or ADHD tend to loose their concentration and daydream frequently.

Yes it is. I am a sufferer of ADHD and it is classed as mental disability (like autism for example). This means that I am unable to become an airline pilot because of the lack of concentration that comes with ADHD. It can be declared on work CV's as a mental disability as well. The symptoms of ADHD can be relieved with medicine however it will never disappear completely as there is a chemical imbalance of the brain that will always be there.

It is normally classed as mental disability under circumstances where the person is suffering from it long-term. This means that they have not grown out of the imbalance or psychological implications and are most likely to suffer from it for the rest of their life. Quite a lot of child do out grow the disorder as they age, but in rare circumstances the don't.
