Although for the most part Aramaic is consider a dead language it is still being taught and used by students and scholars alike. It is helpful in understanding other languages also.

Answer

Aramaic is still spoken as a first language in a handful of villages in Syria.

Aramaic is a dead language... There is no gray area on this. Stating that it is "for the most part" is an inaccurate statement alluding that it may or may not be... Aramaic is as dead a language as Latin if not more so.
