Christianity is the biggest religion on Earth and crosses many borders and engages many more different races of people.

The Catholic church, as it's name claims (from the Greek adjective καθολικός (katholikos), meaning "universal"), is supposed to be universal, but we notice that if the spiritual teachings of Christianity are universal Faith, like those of all religions at birth, the multiple Christian churches have developped social outlooks and practices that have an ethnic nature.

If we want to foster inter-religious harmony between Christianity and other Faiths we would need to concentrate of the spiritual teachings of all religions and overlook the social and dogmatic interpretations that are ethnic.

Christianity is a universalizing religion, because it is not necessary to be a member of any ethnic group, or become a member of that group, in order to be a Christian.

Is shintoism a universalizing or ethnic religion?

Shamanism is not a religion. It is a anthropological description of many religions that have some traits in common such as people who go into trance states and communicate or traveling or guide souls in or heal with the spirit world. There are many differences within each religion and to lump them together is to devalue their true meaning to the believers of these religions. They are not universalizing religions although as almost all religions they make universal claims about the nature of reality as they see it. Its more of a Ethnic religion that tried to link the spiritual realm with the physical world, so then that makes it also universalizing. Its both actually, but more of a ethnic religion.
