The answer to this question would be that in the 1800's the name of this town used to be Pig's Eye Landing. After a guy that owned a beer company but one day a priest came along and said that we could not have this name because it sounded very dumb and so he built a church named St. Paul and got every one to call Pig's Eye Landing St. Paul.

I think that st.paul of Minnesota is named after a saint and its counterpart is

minneapolis being connected by the bridge and that is why it's called a twin cities..

Saint Paul originally was located at Lambert's Landing. It frequently was referred to by the colorful name of Pig's Eye after the popular tavern established by Pierre "Pig's Eye" Parrant.
