Yes, Sunday is the first day of the week. Many will say that Sunday is the 7th day of the week and that it says so in the Bible. Actually, they are incorrect, as it actually says it is Sunday.

In the Old Testament we are told that the world was created in 6 days and God rested on the 7th day and this is the Sabbath. People will say that that proves that Sunday is the 7th day, as that is the Sabbath. But they are forgetting something. The Old Testament was written by the Jews. The Jewish Sabbath, was and still is Saturday, the 7th day of the week.

If you then go to the New Testament and to the crucifixion, there is more evidence. Good Friday is described as being the day of preparation, the day before the Sabbath. Also it is said that they did not want Jesus on the cross on the Sabbath, so when he was found to be dead they took him off the cross and laid him in the tomb. Jesus was put in the tomb on Good Friday. Did you ever think or wonder why did he not rise on Saturday morning, instead of waiting until Sunday? The answer is simple, Saturday was the Sabbath, the day of rest, so Jesus stayed in the tomb.

Finally, we are told that the women came to the tomb on the morning of the first day of the week, which was Sunday, and found that he was risen. Much later Christians adopted Sunday as their Sabbath, in honour of the resurrection. That is why we now have a 2 day weekend, with the week ending right in the middle of it. If someone says to you Sunday is the 7th day of the week and it says so in the bible, you can now explain to them that it actually doesn't.

Many calendars will show Monday as the first day of the week. That is because either the producers think Monday is the first day of the week, or it is put that way because Monday is normally the first day of the working week. Nevertheless, whatever way a calendar has been printed and whatever country you are in and whatever religion you belong to and whatever people say, Sunday is the first day of the week.
