No. It is electro-chemical. The underlying mechanism of electro-chemical plating is the immersion of a part or component in a solution where the metal to be plated on is ionically dissolved. By applying an electric current across the immersion tank and the item to be plated, metal ions in the solution come out of solution as metal atoms directly on the item.
