I don't know about years, but yes, one can have abscessed teeth without having much pain and dentists are always shocked that some people get away with poor dental hygiene. If teeth are infected in any way the gums are too and yes, it can create other diseases and also make one anemic if poison gets into the blood stream. If you are afraid of dentists then don't be. They have come a long way. I use to be terrified of dentists and I am no longer afraid. I just had a lot of dental care done recently before my husband retires and I fell asleep for most of it in the dental chair. If it's a matter of money and you don't have dental then clinics will do this or you can go to a dental school. These students are well on their way to becoming dentists are just fine to work on your teeth.
