I recently purchased a necklace with a pendant ( the clasp marked "Sterling"). When I purchased it, I noticed that the back of the pendant was marked "925" and "China" as well. The reason I bought it was based solely on the fact that the marks "Sterling" and "925" were present, because the style of this piece of jewelry is very detailed and elegant.

The filigree pendant, about half the size of a matchbox, is set with many clear rhinestones or CZ. In the center is an emerald cut green stone and on both the top and bottom/left and right are 4 more of the same stone, that are smaller and round cut.

Because of my thrift store habits combined with my love of collecting jewelry, I invested in a gemstone tester, which paid for itself the first time I used it. Anyway, I figured that chances of this necklace being anywhere close to real were nonexistent, but I put it to the test.

The clear stones tested negative, or as "glass", but to my surprise the green stone in the middle and the 4 matching stones surrounding it tested positive for "Ruby/Sapphire". For the record, the brand of the gemstone tester is "Presidium Gem Tester", bought on Ebay for around $200.00.

So I suppose my question is the same as yours. Apparently mine is!

By the way, I paid $1.99 for the necklace
