No, learning any type of language other then your native language will help you in many ways. Being able to speak in two languages opens many doors in the job market, as employers will look at bilingual persons with more interest than those who only know their native language. Also for those who apply to college, any language would put you above those who are also applying to the same college. Learning French is not pointless. 29 different countries have French as their official language and it is the 4th most spoken language in the European Union. Though it may not be the most spoken language in the world, French is a very useful language to have and will allow you to speak to any one of the 75 million native French speakers that are in the world today.
