It was discovered that early man (neanderthal) practiced a sort of funeral rite. They discovered flowers that had been buried with the deceased. This was one of the first clues that religion, or a belief in a higher order, existed. There is a difference however, between religion and spirituality. Religion is organized and has a general concept. Spirituality is a set of belief systems that may be drawn from many different thoughts and cultures. So since man's early time we humans have felt the need to explain things that we couldn't understand. Early religions were matriarchal. The higher Deity was female. Man looked around and saw that it was woman who gave birth. Females of all mammals gave birth. It made sense that a female also "gave birth" to everything we see around us. This remark I've made will receive alot of debate, I'm sure. There were usually many deities, each to explain different occurrences happenings, situations. The Native American and Greek & Roman mythologies are a great example of this. If you are asking if there exists a god or goddess or some type of higher power, then you are asking one of the biggest, most hotly contended debates in human history.

Nonsense is a matter of perception. To claim something is nonsense without a clearly articulated base of facts as to why you believe something is nonsense, may in itself be nonsense, for I can find nothing of what you base your claim on? However, being you have placed this question under religion, I must say I can give you more factual evidence that there is a God than you can give that it is all nonsense. I hope you find what you are looking for. Viper1
