It's certainly no longer Socialist, in that it no longer believes in state ownership of public assets, it promotes private enterprise, has diminished the power of the trade unions, and has adopted Thatcherite policies in relation to social security and public welfare. It also no longer opposes Britain having nuclear weapons.
This change began under Neil Kinnock in the late 1980s, was continued under John Smith until his death in '94, and finally completely altered by Tony Blair.
The Labour Party still remains slightly more to the Left than the Conservatives, but in many respects the Liberal Democrats have many policies that are more to the left than New Labour (despite their being in coalition with the Tories at present). It's difficult to compare New Labour with a political party from any other country, as it contains so many inconsistencies- for example, the American Democratic Party would not ban the ownership of handguns, but New Labour has, but also the Democrats have not attempted to weaken the power of the Unions, which New Labour has done in Britain. New Labour can only now be described as being vaguley 'middle of the road', with some tendencies to the Left, and some to the Right.
Labor found a new weapon in the sit down because this stopped all production immediately and was still non-violent as a form of protest. This weapon worked well to begin labor negotiation and showed solidarity between workers.
