The only sure cure is kidney transplant. But a cure may not be necessary with only modest pharmaceutical treatment. Liddle Syndrome is a permanent genetic condition. In most cases, it is inherited from a parent who may be unaffected but is a carrier of the genetic defect. However, a few cases of new missense mutations are reported, and this means the defect originated in the patient, not his/her parents. Successful treatment is reported with certain potassium-sparing diuretics, but some of these drugs (Aldactone for example) are not effective. This is an overlooked possible diagnosis for essential hypertension.
