Assassins Creed brotherhood isn't the third it's just a spin off to Ezio's story not part of the Desmond's story or the main story
New edit: it does have Desmond's story in it but mostly near the end and they are doing assassin's creed revelations next but since they said it is Ezio's last game (as in he will likely die) it is very likely that a assassin's creed 3 will be made since each new AC # seems to give new assassin and the game will likely focus on a new assassin (perhaps Desmond?)
Another New edit: You probably already know this by now but Assassin's Creed 3 is already out and focuses on Ratonhnhaké:ton who is an assassin during the American revolutionary war.
