Absolutely. If you go to download.com you will see users like you and me voting for the best antivirus based on the amount of definitions that can detect, budget, and friendly environment. The one that I recommend is Antivir which is on place #2 from my opinion due to being free. 1# I would say is Avast! Norton is somewhere at # 22 if not lower. Symantec used to have a great QA back in 2000. The name remained as it is but the team has downgraded the product way below other competitors to the point of getting frustration on everything it can offer: huge, non-friendly, containg more than 1 module (anivirus) and making the product too complicated, not giving security enough to protect the system (e.g. to detect ZIP layers as much as 99) or detect high level heuristic, not free (see ANTIVIR, AVG, etc) and on top of that has a yearly license which will expire making the customer to miss the effectivness of the software and throw it in the recycle bin due to upgrading it to a different version (that could give him/her a surprise on the features and layout)..then getting to the point and asking...why both with the features, next year will have other...perhaps better onese...and the last but the most important part: DOES NOT DETECT ALL THE VIRUSES ON YOUR COMPUTER! Way to go...have Norton advertised in all Corporate Computer Stores, pay for it for 1 year and it DOES NOT DO THE PROMISE JOB.

It is difficult to say, but the Microsoft offering certainly works.
Install it from the disc that came when you bought Norton AntiVirus. If it came bundled with the computer than you may need to download it again from the Norton website.

I had this problem tonight. I would get the little red shield "Windows Security Center" popup that would say: "norton security suite is turned off" "norton security suite is turned off" If I clicked on it, it would say: Norton Security Suite says the Norton Firewall is turned off and it would say: Norton Security Suite says the Norton Antivirus is turned off I opened the Norton Security suite (from Comcast), and both the Firewall and Antivirus were enabled and running. I tried all sorts of things. I was convinced that the "Windows Security Center" warning was a virus. I was afraid to try clicking on the button in Windows Security Center that claimed it would fix the problem. It turned out to be a lot less serious than that. Here is what I did that actually fixed the problem: 1) I ran as thorough scan with Norton and MalWareBytes (aka MBAM), and found nothing. If you have any other trusted antivirus program, run them as well. 2) I disconnected the network, and disabled the WIFI modem 3) I manually turned off Both the Norton Firewall and the Norton Antivirus 4) I rebooted, and waited for the "Windows Security Center" popup, and I noted that the Norton Tray icon also indicated a problem. 5) I manually turned Both the Norton Firewall and the Norton Antivirus back on. 6) I noted the "Windows Security Center" red shield immediately went away. 7) I rebooted, and the red shield never came back. I use this laptop for video capture. To prevent a background virus scan from occuring during a capture, I disconnect all network connections, and disable Norton firewall and Antivirus, selecting the "Until next Reboot" option. I do my captures, and reboot the computer when I am done. Apparently, "Norton Security Suite" and "Windows Security Center" can get their signals crossed. By actually disabling then later re-enabling the Norton Firewall and Antivirus, they got back in sync.

Neither. Use AVG firewall. It's even better than the other two or the Windows firewall.
