If the engine is not even turning over it maybe loose or corroded battery terminals. If it is turning over but not firing-off it could be as simple as a dirty fuel filter (renew if so) or it could be the heater plugs/glow plugs which are required for diesel engines especially when the engine is cold. Also since it is a diesel if it turns over but doesn't fire-off it may be drawing in extra air through a perished fuel pipe along the system causing an air-lock. .............................................
i had the same problem and it turned out to be my immobilizer had stopped the car from starting
