If you experience pain or swelling you should most certainly go to the doctor immediately. They will test you for common STDs, the most likely suspected one being a strain of Chlamedia, which can supposedly be transferred without sexual contact. If it is not an STD...well, I was told by a urologist (a couple actually) that it was nothing to worry about, albeit they would not say it was normal. From self research all I could find was that such symptoms can be the result of low testosterone levels. So depending on your age, and other factors such a level would of course vary. I had my level tested, and I was told the result was normal, so as for the real answer as to the cause of such symptoms I have no clue. But for you, having your testosterone level tested (they just take a small amount of blood) may be worth looking into.
