There's only one screw but it's well hidden
1. At the back of the laptop remove the three screws on the support posts for the screen
2. Open the laptop fully and lift the plastic panel that has the power button.
3. Remove the 2 screws holding the keyboard in place
4. Carefully slide the keyboard towards the monitor and lift.
5. To the left of the keyboard ribbon cable is the screw that's been causing all this grief.
6. Remove, slide out optical drive, reassemble.

The Acer Aspire 5100 notebook used the 553 MHz or 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM technology. Its maximum memory capacity was 4GB but one was able to expand it by installing 2 SODIMM modules.
Netbooks are cheap(price) and are used for browisng the net, word processing etc. Notebooks are full feature laptops.
Acer's current top-of-the-line laptop is the Acer Aspire V3. It has good performance, is capable of gaming and has plenty of storage. A V3 with a 17" screen is around $1800.
