Scottish comedian Tommy Lorne invented the catchphrase: "sausages are the boys" - as he loved sausages! He often ate a sausage sandwich between his acts. It has been suggested that Tommy Lorne was the inventor of the flat & square Lorne sausage. Easier & quicker to cook than "links", and fits in a bun without rolling off. Handy before going on stage!
Lorne lived 1890 - 1935. He was born in Kirkintilloch near Glasgow. His birth name was Hugh Gallagher Corcoran. Tommy Lorne performed in many Scottish theatres and often performed in Glasgow and Edinburgh and was much in demand for pantomime.
