A woman's wardrobe expands exponentially in relationship to the volume of it's intended container.
A closet should be 2 feet deep. If you really want to walk into it, add another 2 feet (minimum) to the depth.
The width would be determined by the size of the room and the location of doors and windows.

∙ 14y agoThe term "walk in closet" means a closet that is large enough that you can walk into it, as compared to other closets which you reach into from the outside. However, the size of a walk in closet can vary tremendously. It can be just barely large enough to walk into, or it can be the size of a large room.
For a minimum dimension assume 2' for the actual hanging space. If it is a double loaded aisle (hanging space on two sides with access down the middle - allow 3' down the middle.

∙ 13y agoConsidering the average size years ago was 5' by 6' and now days most people prefer a slightly larger walk in closet, the average size is now 6' by 8' mainly because people seem to have more stuff to store. The important aspect to consider is the closet has to suit your taste and most people can never have enough closet space.
