San Bernardino is still one of the most violent in the country. Just not as bad as other years in this decade the worst this decade was 2005. But historically speaking infact this city has been among the top 25 most dangerous consistently for decades now, with the occasional year were it drops out of the top 25. In the 1980's in particular the late 80's was the peaks of violence spilling into the early 90's as the worst. It had the 5th highest murder rate of any city in the country. The only cities above this were Washington D.C, Baltimore, New Orleans.
As for 2008 crime and murders have been drastically reduced. Very dramatic from one year to another. But the fact that San Bernardino city officials are known for misreporting numbers and fudging statistics sadly enough the numbers can never be truly trustworthy.
