She was married three times in her life.

When she was 17 in 1930 she was making a movie with Grant Withers. During a break of the film in late January they flew to Arizona to get married. Her mother Glady's was very angry at Loretta for the stunt and when she found out sent Loretta's step-father George to the airport to collect her and bring her back to the house that they had been sharing. About a year later Loretta divorced him.

In 1940 she married businessman Thomas Lewis. They had two children Christopher Paul and Peter Charles in 1944 and 1945 and he also "helped" raise her daughter Judy (her biological daughter by Clark Gable that she claimed she adopted.) Things were good for them for a while, but after years of semi-unemployment he got jealous of being Mr. Loretta Young. While Loretta was doing The Loretta Young Show in California Tom moved to NY for a job. One time he took his sons on vacation and then when it came time for them to come back to their mother in California Tom told her that he had enrolled the boys in Catholic Schools in NYC. During this time they were haggling about money owed to him as producer of The Loretta Young Show and in the 1960's they divorced very bitterly.

In 1993 she married Jean Louis-a designer she had known for years (she had been friends with his wife Margaret before she past away.) They were married for several years until his death in the late 1990's.
