Tupac Shakur was raised as a Christian by his mother, but he also showed interest in the teachings of the Nation of Islam and was influenced by its beliefs. However, he did not officially adhere to any particular religion.

How he was raised:

He was raised a Christian by his mother. He is shown in many photos wearing a cross. He also had a tattoo of a cross on his back.

He never claimed a religion:

Shakur never professed following a particular religion, but his lyrics in singles such as 'Only God Can Judge Me' and poems such as The Rose That Grew from Concrete suggests he believed in God, meaning he was a deist.

Bottom line:

No one can say for certain, but the arguments are as follows:

There are those that say he is merely deist because of his aversion to organized religions.

There are those that say he is a Christian because he has been quoted as saying "the reason I can sell 6 million records is because of my faith in Jesus, in God."

Background.Tupac Shakur never revealed his religion, although there are many allusions to Christianity in his music. Many think his name sounds Muslim, but he was actually named for a Peruvian revolutionary who led an uprising against Spain.

His parents were American, and active members of the Black Panthers.

From Answers.com's reference topic on Tupac Shakur:

"Shakur never professed following a particular religion, but his lyrics in singles such as 'Only God Can Judge Me' and poems such as 'The Rose That Grew From Concrete' suggests he believed in God. This means many analysts currently describe him as a deist."

Does Tupac's music reveal his religion? One only needs to look at his imagery, his lyrics, and anything else associated with him to understand he recognizes Jesus' crucifixion.

"The reason I can sell 6 million records and go to jail and come out without a scratch is because I can look directly into my faith in Jesus, in God. And alot of things I can not do, I can not play Basketball like every other black person in America, but I can act. I have to repay for that blessing by shining. If God gives you the voltage to shine and you waste it that's the curse..."

Note: The above quote has no known attribution or context; it may not be a reliable source of information.

That might not be the whole story...People know that Muslims don't believe in Jesus as the Son of God and also that they deny he died and was resurrected. They believe Jesus was simply one of the prophets like Abraham, Moses and Adam. Summary: It's still unclear.Tupac didn't make it clear what his religion was or if he subscribed to one at all; he only said what he thought religion was to him; he never said his official religion, or if he had one. But no one can say for certain.

There are those that say he is merely deist because of his aversion to organized religions. A deist is someone who believes in God but not religion.

There are those that say he is a Christian because he has been quoted as saying "the reason I can sell 6 million records is because of my faith in Jesus, in God."

And there are those that say he converted to Islam, though this explanation is almost entirely due to heresy based on his father's religion and some of the members of Outlawz becoming Muslims themselves.

PPL say he converted to Islam and then they killed him because of his religion because in Islam he couldn't do the things that he used to do.

No, he was a Deist.

Tupac might be described as "someone who believes in God but rejects organized religion." However, this is not the definition of a Deist.

The simplest definition of a Deist is one who believes in a clockwork god - that is, a god who created everything and then stepped back to let creation run its course, intervening rarely if at all. This is opposed to a Theist, who believes God is actively involved in His creation.

Yes, he did. You can confirm this by his quotes and his song lyrics (specifically look at "Only God Can Judge Me"). He was classified as a Diest, not believing in any specific category of Christianity.

Yes. Hes made severaly references to it and made christian quotes. If a Christian was one who believed in christ then Tupac was definitely a Christian. Though Tupac never affiliated with the church he was still a Christian

No one but him or his family & friends know his real religion. Probably he didn't even know himself. As many people say, he was a living contradiction.
