Yes, Television "REALLY" started in the 50's. Emerson started a type of TV with Channel W2XB in New York.

There were two competing types of TV signals in the early days. You needed two different TV's to receive all signals. FDR did not like the management of the Emerson Company, so he spent a great deal of Government money to drive Emerson off the air by Funding the RCA version of TV. That was the standard until this current digital conversion.
