A:The Bible tells us that Matthew and John were disciples of Jesus, but not Mark or Luke. More importantly, it is unlikely that any of these wrote the gospels that now bear their names, as the gospels were originally anonymous until attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John later in the second century. Scholars say that none of the gospels could have been written by eyewitnesses to the events portrayed.

yes he was. the apostles are all together Mathew, Mark,Luke, and John.

Actually Mark and Luke were NOT a part of the twelve only Matthew and John. this is the list of the 12:

1. Andrew

2. James (brother of John - the sons of Zebedee)

3. John (brother of James - also known as sons of thunder)

4. James the lesser (or younger - brother of Jude)

5. Philip

6. Bartholomew (also referred to as Nathanael)

7. Matthew (Levi the tax collector)

8. Thomas

9. Thaddeus (Jude)

10. Simon (Peter)

11. Judas Iscariot

12. Simon the Zealot

Luke was a Physician and not one of the 12 but one tradition has it that he was one of the 70 disciples who were sent out 2 by 2 to spread the news of Jesus another tradition is that He met Paul and was so convinced of the truth that he wrote Luke and the book of Acts as well.

Mark was also one of the 70 disciples

Matthew and John are the only two of the four gospels to write first hand accounts

John mark was likely a teenager when Jesus was preaching. His mother is said to have been a follower of Jesus. After Jesus' death, Mark travelled with Peter, and as he spoke fluent Greek acted as Peter's interpreter. Mark also travelled with Paul of Tarsus. Acts 12:12 gives us part of this information.

A:

No. We do not even know who this author was, as the Gospel was originally anonymous, but we can be sure he was not a disciple of Jesus. Later in the second century, the Gospel was attributed to Mark, the young companion of Paul and so, for convenience, we continue to use this name.

AnswerNo, Mark was not a disciple of Jesus, but he was related to Him.

Mark was the cousin of Barnabus:-

Col 4:10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark, the cousin of Barnabas (regarding whom you received commandments; if he comes to you, receive him),

[Or, to put it another way, Barnabus was Mark's uncle.]

Tradition has it that both Mary the mother of Jesus and Barnabus were twins, and that Mary was born first. This means Barnabus was the brother of Mary, and therefore that he was uncle to Mary's child Jesus.

John Mark was the cousin of Barnabus who was the uncle of Jesus, so this means John Mark and Jesus were cousins once removed.

Yes, Mark was not one of the original twelve apostles chosen by Jesus. However, he is traditionally identified as the author of the Gospel of Mark in the New Testament.

Mark may have been a disciple, but was not one of the Twelve Disciples. He certainly was not one of the apostles.
