The age probably varies from child to child. Some children mature physically and mentally quite early and it would obviously be advantageous for them to know about sex. Others who perhaps have taken a bit longer to mature physically and mentally should perhaps be allowed to retain the innocence of childhood a little longer, after all once it has gone it can never be recaptured. Probably once a child begins to ask questions or begins to mature visibly physically is soon enough to have a talk to them, or better still buy them a good book about puberty and let them read it in private. Most children would be far too embarrassed to ask questions or listen to an adult talking about the subject.
