While statins are effective in lowering cholesterol for many people there are about 15% of the population that can not take them due to side effects. The most common being muscle pain and CoQ10 depletion. I have attached an article which can give you more information regarding this.

∙ 11y agoSimvastatin is used as to help lower LDL (bad) and improve HDL (good) cholesterol. Side effects can include digestive issues such as constipation, stomach pain and nausea. Headaches and confusion have also been seen in some patients. More serious side effects include muscle pain, red urine, fever, rash, hives and yellowing of the skin. If you have any of these (or any other symptoms that concern you) see medical advice.
