There are many gases that would cause a human being to lose consciousness if he inhaled one of them ... even some after which he would never again regain it. None of those scenarios would involve true "sleep". Carbon monoxide, although colorless, odorless, and tasteless, produces unconsciousn…ess followed by death. Helium, after producing a funny voice, also leads to death. Neither of these is chemically poisonous. They're simply accepted by your body and take the place of oxygen, without which you can't live very long. Directly poisonous gases include things like bromine, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and the nerve gases and "mustard gas" manufactured for war. One whiff of any of these, you're in trouble, and you know it. What you're looking for is a gas that could cause unconsciousness when inhaled, but after which the person could be easily revived, without any lasting harm. These would be any of the single gases or mixtures used as anesthetics during surgery. We'll mention only one of them: Nitrous oxide ( N 2 O ) Nitrous oxide is commonly known as "laughing gas" or "sweet air". At room temperature, it's colorless and non-flammable, with a slightly sweet odor and taste. It's used in surgery and dentistry for its anesthetic and analgesic effects. It's known as "laughing gas" because of the euphoric effects of inhaling it, a property that has led to its recreational use. It's also used as an oxidizer in rocketry and in motor racing to increase the power output of engines. A comment in the discussion section of this question suggests that nitrogen could be an answer. Nitrogen makes up about 78% of the air that you're breathing right now, so we'll let you think about how effective nitrogen is at putting you to sleep. (MORE)

There are a number of problems with accustoming a cat to your waking and sleeping schedule. One is that most cats are instinctively nocturnal (they would hunt at night). Another is that cats do not remain active throughout the day as humans do, but take "catnaps" whenever and wherever suits them. A …third is that young kittens expend a lot of energy investigating their environment. They may sleep soundly for only a couple of hours and be ready for action again.. After a few weeks, a kitten will usually adapt (at least partly) to the hours kept by its owners. You may find it necessary to physically exhaust the kitty with intense activity if you want a lengthy rest period to follow. As a cat grows older, it will generally not disturb you even when it finds itself awake at night. (MORE)

Sleep is very important to how our body functions. We have a circadian rhythm, which is our 24-hour cycle of sleeping and waking. Sleep deprivation can cause irritability and poor judgement. A lack of sleep also suppresses your immune system, making it weaker against fighting bacteria and viruses. P…ulling one all-nighter may be fine, but if this becomes a habit for you, you will find that you will get sick much easier and it will last a lot longer. Also, lack of sleep increases your stress levels, which also suppress your immune system, also making it easier for you to get sick. (MORE)
Smelling jasmine makes a person go off to sleep. Even counting backwards from 500, watching boring movies, reading, weariness makes a person go to sleep. If that doesn't work then simply shut your eyes and you will feel sleepy after sometime. Have you tried melatonin? It is a chemical that your bod…y naturally produces at nighttime to help you sleep. Sometimes people have trouble sleeping because their body is not producing enough melatonin, or is not producing it at the right time of day. Melatonin is available in pill form, over the counter, at any drug store/pharmacy. It's usually in the vitamin aisle. (MORE)

The tone of the question isn't entirely clear. If you are talking about forcing a woman to sleep who does not wish to sleep, then you DON'T EVER do that. Women are adults and can decide when and if they wish to sleep. If you are talking about helping a woman to sleep who wants to sleep and is having… trouble, refer her to her primary care physician.
