∙ 10y agoConsumers have a very important role in the ecosystem to balance out the food chain. A consumer is a living organism which eats other living things since it can't make its own food. This enables animal populations to be kept at a reasonable number by consumers.
Primary consumers obtain their energy from producers whereas secondary, tertiary, etc. consumers obtain their energy from eating other animals.
