Direct expense is the known set expenses engaged in doing commerce, work or activity and example is buying a car will cost you the price of the car, sales tax and interest for the loan to own that automobile....... direct is usually the direct cost of ownership or manufacturing

Indirect expenses are not necessary hidden expense but include additional requirements imposed that require owning that car to be used such as license, registration, auto insurance, state inspection, gas, auto maintenance and personal property tax........indirect is secondary expense that incur when ownership and manufacturing rights or operations must be also maintained. (ownership also engages responsible actions that too have costs).

Another classic example a puppy cost $10 that's a direct expense an indirect expense is feeding and care that comes with ownership.
