Bad capacitors mainly, poor heat exhaust in some. The problem usually lies with the system the power supply is in demanding too much from it.

What are common efficiencies for transformers?

Transformer utilization factor is the ration of power delivered to the load and ac rating of the transformer secondary.

What is the difference between Auto transformer and Power transformer?

An auto transformer has one winding with the output being tapped at some point and therefore has no isolation between primary and secondary. This may make it unsafe or illegal in some applications. A common power transformer has separate windings.

What are the different types of transformers?

A small list of transformers1. Distribution Transformers2. Padmount Transformers3. Station Transformers4. Station Transformers Various specific electrical application designs require a variety of transformer types. Although they all share the basic characteristic transformer principles, they are customize in construction or electrical properties for certain installation requirements or circuit conditions.Autotransformer: Transformer in which part of the winding is common to both primary and secondary circuits.Capacitor voltage transformer: Transformer in which capacitor divider is used to reduce high voltage before application to the primary winding.Distribution transformer, power transformer: International standards make a distinction in terms of distribution transformers being used to distribute energy from transmission lines and networks for local consumption and power transformers being used to transfer electric energy between the generator and distribution primary circuits.Phase angle regulating transformer: A specialized transformer used to control the flow of real power on three-phase electricity transmission networks.Scott-T transformer: Transformer used for phase transformation from three-phase to two-phase and vice versa.Polyphase transformer: Any transformer with more than one phase.Grounding transformer: Transformer used for grounding three-phase circuits to create a neutral in a three wire system, using a wye-delta transformer,[85][90] or more commonly, a zigzag grounding winding.Leakage transformer: Transformer that has loosely coupled windings.Resonant transformer: Transformer that uses resonance to generate a high secondary voltage.Audio transformer: Transformer used in audio equipment.Output transformer: Transformer used to match the output of a valve amplifier to its load.Instrument transformer: Potential or current transformer used to accurately and safely represent voltage, current or phase position of high voltage or high power circuits.Pulse transformer: Specialized small-signal transformer used to transmit digital signaling while providing electrical isolation.

What is center tap transformer?

Center tap transformer is the such kind of transformer that is made to a point half way along a winding of a transformer.

How many windings does a auto-transformer have?

A true autotransformer consists of one, tapped, winding. For a step-down transformer, part of the winding is in series with the supply and the other part is common to both the supply and the load. For a step-up autotransformer, part of the winding is in series with the load, while the other part is common to both supply and load. But you can also use a mutual transformer as an autotransformer, by connecting the two windings in series and, then, described as above.

What is the name of the transformer that reduces the voltage?

a step down transformer is used to lower the voltage from the powerlines into your home. a common slang term for this type of transformer is a pole pig.

What is the maximum capacity of 11kv transformer?

It depends on the design of the transformer but 1 MVA is a common size for an 11 kV / 415 v three-phase transformer.

What are common efficiencies for transformers?

Transformer utilization factor is the ration of power delivered to the load and ac rating of the transformer secondary.

What is uses of tapped coil?

If question is about a transformer's tapped coil then the taps are a way of getting different voltages from one transformer. The end of the transformer's coil is the common point and the taps to this common point will give different voltages depending on where in the coil the taps are taken from.

What are disadvantages autotransformer?

cannot be used as an isolating transformer, because is has common winding.

What is the different of induction transformer and automatic transformer?

Neither of these terms is normally applied to a transformer. You may be thinking of a 'mutual tranformer' and an 'autotransformer'. If so, then a 'mutual transformer' is a transformer which has electrically-isolated primary and secondary windings, whereas an 'autotranformer' (the term, 'auto', is misleading and has nothing to do with the transformer being 'automatic'!) has a common and series winding, meaning that the primary and secondary sides are electrically connected to each other.

What type of transformers are used to step down a voltage for general use and what type of systems are they classified as?

The transformer you describe is being used as a step-down transformer, and is classified as an electrical machine. The transformer could either be a mutual transformer, consisting of two, electrically-isolated coils, or an auto-transformer which uses a common coil between its primary and secondary circuits.

How do you solve low voltage in electricity problems?

low voltage problem may arise due to unbalancing of distribution transformer in your area. please ask your electricity provider to balance load on distribution transformer.
