If you are asking about the video game, then I have no idea... But the Valar and Maiar (The gods and other great beings like wizards or Sauron or Balrogs) can manipulate the world to their will using magic. Some men and elves are also capable of such feats, but they all have their limits.

The Nine prolonged life indefinitely and were thus a great lure to great Kings of Men longing for immortality. Eventually, however, the Nine drew their bearers into a world that was neither living nor dead.

It was a magical ring, forged by Sauron in the fires of Mount Doom. It was designed to rule all the other 19 rings made by elven smiths for kings among Men, Dwarves, and Elves. It didn't exactly let Sauron rule the kings, but he became very powerful. Contrary to what many people in the story believe, the ring only answers to Sauron. Many think they can take the ring and use it for good, but the ring has a mind of its own and only wants to be reunited with its master.

The Ring appears to grant its user invisibility, very long life, and perhaps influence over others. But The Ring's true powers are not exercised by its user, but rather over and to the detriment of its user.

It curiously seems to grow and shrink in size and to become heavier or lighter of its own will, sometimes slipping off a finger upon which it had been snug. It cannot be marred or harmed by any means (except of course by the heat in the intense fires in which it was made: at Mount Doom).

Most importantly, the Ring insidiously warps the mind and the perception of those who come in contact with it, amplifying selfishness, greed, jealousy, pride, despair, and paranoia, while appearing as the most perfect and precious of objects. In this way, it corrupts their natures, subverts their wills, and essentially uses them as a servant and carrier until it chooses to discard them. Once one has been a bearer of the Ring, one is never able to give it up willingly, and can never put away thoughts of reacquiring it. All these effects increase with one's exposure to The Ring.

Many have believed that the power contained within The Ring could be harnessed and used by one of the Great to accomplish whatever noble or humble purposes they would most deeply hope for. But the truly wise know that this is ultimately a trick. Everything The Ring would accomplish would eventually be turned the will of its true master and maker, the Dark Lord Sauron. Either it would betray its user directly or cause him or her to become a pale imitation of the Dark Lord himself.

From the moment it was severed from the hand of Sauron, it has been using its powers to effect a reunion. Sauron has been seeking it and it has been trying to return to him. Once together, it will be able to express its TRUE power and the purpose for which it was made: to conquer and enslave the other Rings of Power:

As evidence of this, these words were inscribed on the ring in the Dark Speech:"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them. One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." They could be read when the ring was heated. Otherwise, it appeared as a perfect golden circle.

This is the full poem from which these lines derive:

"Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,

Seven for theDwarf-lords in their halls of stone,

Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,

One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie."

**The Ring (as first conceived and written of in The Hobbit) was originally simply a magic device used to make a person invisible. When Tolkien was asked to write a sequel to The Hobbit, he focused on this artifact and developed it's properties and history, even going back and revising the original Hobbit to fit with this new conception. **

The One Ring served to amplify the power of the wearer. On Sauron's finger, it reinforced his already considerable powers, especially that of controlling others. It enabled him to focus his manipulative powers on the wearers of the 19 lesser rings, which themselves would make their wearers more susceptible to control. However on the downside, Sauron had invested so much of his power into the One Ring, that he was now fully dependent on it.

The ring would have different powers, depending on who wore it. When worn by a mortal creature, such as a man, or a hobbit, it would seek to preserve that which mortals value most - their life. This is why it makes them invisible. But by doing this, it would make them act as a beacon for the Nazgul to home in on - ultimately the ring is a part of Sauron and seeks to be reunited with him. Secondly, merely by possessing the ring, a mortal's lifespan would be extended - 'stretched' to a debilitating and wearisome degree, as various characters have put it.

What does Nazg-kal Nazg amanaisal Kal-air Ida gimbator mean?

This is actually an incorrect spelling of part of what is inscribed on the One Ring, which is in turn part of the One Ring poem. The question should probably be: "What does Ash nazg thrakatuluk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul mean." The full inscription on the Ring reads: Ash nazg durbatuluk, ash nazg gimbatul Ash nazg thrakatuluk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul. or in English: One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, And in the darkness bind them. On the Ring, it was written in Elvish, because small lettering was needed, but it was in the language of the Black Speech. The full One Ring Poem goes like this: Three rings for the elven kings, under the sky. Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone. Nine for mortal men, doomed to die. One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them, One ring to bring them all, And in the darkness bind them. In the land of Mordor, Where the shadows lie.

Where in Gondor does Gandalf go to research the One Ring?

Gandalf goes to Minas Tirith in Gondor to research the One Ring. There Lord Denethor grudgingly allowed Gandalf to search among his hoarded scrolls and books. And there he found the description of the One Ring written by Isildur.

Why doesn't Sauron turn invisible while wearing the ring in the scene of the past?

'Invisibility' is not one of the One Ring's intended powers. It is a side-effect of being worn by a mortal being such as a man or a Hobbit. The Ring's true purpose was to enhance the wearer's natural abilities. On Sauron's finger, it gave him powers to rival the Valar (greater beings below the Creator Eru) and the ability to influence people wearing the other rings of power. In the book, Tom Bombadil did not become invisible when he put the One Ring on his finger leading people to ask Tolkien 'Who is Tom Bombadil?' more than any other question. A question that Tolkien never answered.

What effect did the 3 rings have on the Elves bearers?

Galadriel, Elrond and Gandalf carried/wore the three elven rings. There really was no discussion on what the powers of the rings was. Gandalf had the fire ring, Narya, Galadriel wore Nenya the ring of water and Elrond wore Vilya, the ring of air. They put them away, never to be misused. If you remember in the book though, Galadriel was affected by the temptation of the one ring but she resisted it.
