AIDS is the disease caused by HIV infection. HIV is spread through bodily fluid contact - blood, vaginal fluids and semen primarily. If you don't have contact with these bodily fluids, your risk of being infected with HIV is extremely low.

HIV cannot survive outside the human body, so you are not at risk from having contact with common public items, such as toilet seats or door handles.
