There are several substances that your body could not function without. Carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and phophorus are all important; without these you would not have DNA, blood, or any other organic molecules. Water is essential, and facilitates almost all of your bodily functions. Glucose is how the cells of your body receive energy. Salt forms sodium and potassium ions to help your brain function. The most important substance, overall, would have to be carbon. It's the building block of life.
