Lots of people lost their homes and jobs because the local shops where flooded. Boscastle thrived mainly on tourism, so the floods destroyed a large part of its income.
Electricity supplies were disrupted, trees were uprooted and bridges were damaged. Many people also lost their cars as the wall of water swept through the village and took the cars along, down to the sea.
