Mennonites believe that technology is bad and it distracts from nature. They believe they should be happy with what they are given by god and not use man-made things to improve their lives. Christians are ok with using technology.

What is a Mennonite?

The Mennonites are a Christian denomination of the Anabaptist (Anabaptists are Christians who believe in delaying baptism until the candidate confesses his or her own faith) who arose from the teachings of Menno Simons ( a Catholic priest at the time of the Reformation around 1526 or 1527). They follow the Bible closely, and apply it to all their daily life. Separation from worldly trends and fashions, if they are seen to be in violation to God's word, is the standard - although there are conservative and more liberal groups within the Mennonites. They do not practice separation to the extent that the related Amish people do, and have strong evangelistic ministries and missions. Conservative Mennonites are sometimes referred to as the 'Plain People' in reference to their simple style of dressing and living.

Do Mennonites believe in Santa Claus?

Believing in Santa Claus or not believing in Santa Claus has nothing to do with Mennonite practices. The little kids in our Mennonite church love the idea of a big red fat man with a ton of facial hair quickly and quietly coming into their house and giving them Star Wars mugs, bicycles, and an Xbox at 12:00 A.M. So there you go. (I am a Mennonite by the way; and yes, Mennonites do believe in the use of computers; no, Mennonites are not of the Amish - the Amish are actually from the Mennonites - it's the Amish that don't believe in the use of computers)

Why did the mennonites oppose slavery and prejudice?

Due to their religious beliefs, namely, that all men are made in the image of God and that everyone in the world are brothers and sisters through Christ Jesus, Mennonites believe that it is morally wrong to enslave any person (since all are part of the family of God). For those same reasons, Mennonites believe in equality and nonviolence.
