You have to get the Gordon glove when your an adult to push big hudge bulders. You get it after you get the fire medalian. When your a kid you get a wristband that lets you push small boulders. You get after getting the fire stone. Some boulders you must blow up. Either use bomb flowers ( they grow in Gordon city and Dodongon cave) or you get a bomb sack in Dodongon cave.

Sounds like you're stuck in the Fire Temple, based on the puzzle description. To fix this, exit and re-enter the temple, or save the game and quit to go back to the entrance, and go back to the room with the block puzzle you're talking about. The reason the block won't come back down is because the puzzle was reset through one of these methods. You have to push the block back down on the flame to get to the upper floors, then go the room where you push the block down to access the boss room.
