In simple terms, an atom bomb is a device containing pieces of fission material at sub-critical masses (self-sustaining chain reaction cannot occur). When the bomb is activated, the pieces are brought together into critical or super-critical mass so that a self-sustaining chain reaction can occur. Two models of making this happen are the gun model and the implosion model. The gun model shoots a piece of fission material into another piece, producing super-critical mass. The implosion model uses an explosive to compress the fission material to critical density.

First you build an atom bomb.

Then you jacket it (surround it) with hydrogen and its isotopes.

Done.
