Please look closely at your jewelry item to see if it is "585" rather than "385". 14k is fourteen karat gold, and 585 is also fourteen karat gold, meaning that it is 58.5 percent pure gold, the remainder being alloy of other metals. 585 is most commonly seen on European made jewelry. And yes, you sometimes see both purity marks on the same piece.

14k 585 = 58.5% is a European stamping. 58.5% = 14k.

585 = 58.5% gold = 14K = 14/24 = 14 out of 24 parts pure gold.

750 = 75.0% gold = 18k = 18/24 = 18 out of 24 parts pure gold.

Its probably stamped 585 rather than 885, indicating 14 carat gold. Sometimes the stamping is somewhat worn, blurred or dirty, so the 5 may look like an 8.
