The first question of the Greater Westminster Catechism says this:

Question 1: What is the chief and highest end of man?

Answer: Man's chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.

This is basically what The Bible teaches about the purpose of life - to know God.

For a Christian there is a slight difference the purpose for life is to be involved in God's work on earth.

Some Christians understand that God gave us the longing to ask the questions, but not the ability to know the answers unless we come to sincerely seek and rely on Him:

Ecclesiastes 3:11New Living Translation (NLT)11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end.

True Christianity points themselves and others to the truth of Scripture. From the dawn of time, mankind has fruitlessly attempted to answer the basic questions we each have at one time or another: Why was I born/exist? Is this all there is to life - a one time trouble-filled train ride with the last station being oblivion. That is the ultimate answer from Philosophy/Evolution. But the Bible tells a different story if one reads and studies it.

All of us, not just one religion or group, are here to seek out God, our Creator and learn His perfect ways and character. Praying for understanding with a humble approach to God will lead us to repentance in His time, and by following our perfect human example - Jesus Christ - which is what the term disciple means - to imitate fully. When baptized, the Christian/person is begotten into the family of God. During their lifetimes, they grow with God's Spirit within them, doing God's good works He has designed for each of us from before the beginning:

Ephesians 2:10New Living Translation (NLT)10 For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.

The Christian believes in the Great White Throne Judgment when those who have repented and follow Christ will be 'born again' as spiritual sons and daughters in the God Family for all eternity.
