Brown bears are very big. They are the largest type of bear (along with the polar bear). They can weigh between 150 and 1,700 pounds. Brown bears are usually 8 feet long, about 4 feet high to their shoulder, and about 9 feet tall when they're standing up. They have thick, long fur that can be different shades of brown. Sometimes their fur looks sort of red, gray, or yellow. They have a lot of fur behind their neck, like a mane. Brown bears have large, heavy skulls. They have a hump of muscle on their back. They have long claws on their four paws. They usually walk on four legs and sometimes stand on only two.
