A mediator is a connecting link between two parties who want to come to an agreement.
In the case of I Timothy 2:5 talking about Salvation Jesus Christ was the connecting link between God and men. Jesus was the perfect mediator as he possessed the nature and attributes of God (He was the Son of God and God Himself) and He (Jesus) was fully a Human Being. Jesus was the God/Man and so was the perfect Mediator. He mediates peace between God and any man who comes to God through Jesus Christ.
