Best Answer

Vitamin D was the fourth vitamin named (in the early 1920's). Researchers have been naming newly discovered vitamins in the alphabetical order, and D is the fourth letter of the Latin (and English) alphabet. As research progressed, a few of the vitamins have been renamed or reclassified, which is why certain letters are missing from the current list of vitamin names.
